 FAQs:

  • State certification in Georgia requires your course to be taught by a physician or ACME. While the state does not set a limit for course hours, we firmly believe that afternoon courses alone, while less expensive, will not provide you with the necessary understanding and/or level of comfort needed to operate the technologies required to succeed in this competitive marketplace.

At Southern Laser Academy, your lectures will be conducted by Emily Hutchinson, owner of Southern Laser Academy as well as a licensed medical aesthetician and licensed laser technician with 15+ years of hands-on laser experience, and Dr. David Whiteman, FRCSC, a double board-certified plastic surgeon with almost 30 years of experience. This gives students the unique opportunity to ask questions about multiple systems to insiders in the industry. The course will cover the full range of cosmetic laser services, equipment options, safety and operation, procedures, and related skin modalities.

  • State certification in Georgia requires instruction on hair removal and intense pulsed light (IPL).  At Southern Laser Academy, you will receive didactic instruction as well as hands-on training in laser hair removal, intense pulsed light, laser tattoo removal, and vascular lesion and spider vein treatment. You will also be exposed to ablative and non-ablative skin treatment technology. With this degree of hands-on training, you will be completely comfortable when you have finished your two-day experience.

  • To renew your cosmetic laser practitioner license, the state of Georgia requires a minimum of 5 hours of continuing education units (CEUs). Our CEU courses provide the full five hours you need for recertification.

  • Yes, we provide instruction to out-of-state students. However, it is your responsibility to make sure that your certifications are transferable to the state in which you will be operating laser equipment. You can always check with your state medical board for any other questions you may have.

  • A cosmetic laser technician license is a gateway to fantastic growth potential for your career. You will qualify to work in facilities like medical spas, cosmetic laser centers, advanced salons, and plastic surgery offices performing routine cosmetic laser procedures.

  • Our primary curriculum is designed for licensed estheticians, master cosmetologists, RNs, LPNs, and PAs. If you hold one or more of these qualifications in Georgia, our training course can provide you with the education you need to pursue a laser technician license. However, it is each student’s responsibility to ensure that they meet the requirements for licensure.
